Fiction or Non-fiction?

It is a busy morning.

Dad is off to the office and the children are getting ready for school.

Mum, the referee, is packing school snack and lunch boxes as she reminds them of things they need to carry for the day.

“Mum, I can’t find my socks.”

“Look on the laundry rack” says Mum.

“Mum, the cat has scratched my book cover.”

“Put some nice stickers on it” says Mum.

“Mum, is the Bible Fiction or Non-Fiction?”

Mum has one eye on the dosa on the pan while she is slicing apples.

“Why do you want to know that now?” asks Mum.

“It’s my reading homework. I read the Bible yesterday and Miss Tracey says I have to write a record in my reading diary. So please tell me.”

“What?” asks Mum.

“Is the Bible Fiction or Non-Fiction? I have to put it under a category.”

“Hmmm...” says Mum, “You better write ‘Religious text’.”

“Ok, how to spell ‘religious’?”

“Go look in the dictionary” says Mum.

Children have to find their own answers for some questions.
